What You Seek, You Will Find

 This week we are studying several chapters in Alma, Helaman, and 3 Nephi. One of the main questions is, "What causes the people to harden their hearts against the teachings of Christ."  In Alma 30 we read the story of Korihor and how he turned so hard from his teachings and the knowledge he had. What made him change his mindset from serving God to preaching against him after having a testimony? He actively taught against God and Christ, so much so that he denied their existence. What makes a person do that? In Korihor's case, he explains how he believed the advisory when he was told there wasn't a God and it was his mission to reclaim those lost souls. This was a message from the devil hoping to thwart the plan of happiness and salvation. I can't help but wonder how strong Korihor's testimony was in the beginning and how closely he tried to keep to the straight and narrow? Did he actively try to converse with God or did he do the bare minimum to get by? What ...

A Warning for Our Time

 This week we're studying the chapters in the Book of Mormon warning us about the "Great and Abominable Church" that will plague the earth in the last days. We are there... it's been coming on for many years now, but I can really see the quickening of how wicked things are becoming.  2 Nephi 27-29 we learn that the lost portions of the Bible will be restored by an unlearned man and the work will be criticized by those who don't want to acknowledge the power of God. Many want to lead people astray for money, fame, riches, etc. and they will purposely make false claims or hide truths. This weeks scripture study helps to remind me that in these last days, we can't stand idle on the sidelines and take for granted our knowledge. We need to hold fast and recognize when things are being distorted by those who are actively seeking to direct us with false teachings. I have to say, it's not as easy to spot in some situations.
