Take Upon Us His Name

 Hello All!

This is a newer Blog for me that I can use during my studies in my pursuit for an online degree with BYU-Idaho Online. I'm currently taking an HTML class along with University Studies and a Religious course. Part of my classes is sharing with others what I'm finding and learning.

This week we've been studying the doctrine of Christ. The need to learn of Him, repent, be baptized in His name, and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, (a constant companion to guide and direct you in this life.)

The question was asked during our study, "Why did Christ, a perfect being and the Lamb of God, have need of being baptized?" In 2 Nephi 31:5 I read and understood the reasoning behind Christ being baptized and receiving the Holy Ghost in the form of a dove. He was giving us an example to follow, being obedient to the teachings and commandments of the Father, to fulfill all righteousness. Christ didn't need to be baptized himself, but following the commandments of God is what we're all asked to do. If Christ followed all the commandments, why would I think I could do differently?

As we dug a little deeper during our class discussions another question was asked. "How is baptism a gateway into the kingdom of God?" This was an interesting discussion and I loved one of the analogies my fellow classmates made. He said, "Picture an estate, beautiful building with a gated entrance. We must open that gate and walk through to make it to this beautiful estate. There is a walkway leading to the front door, and the path can be full of obstacles, but the estate is there for us and all we have to do is open that gate and walk through." I thought that wa a GREAT way to picture what baptism is. A gate to the eternal estate we have waiting for us and all we have to do is open that gate, (repent), and walk through (baptism), to put us on the pathway to eternal life.

I have a testimony that the way is there and if we all but take that first step, we will be blessed as we continue down the path to eternal life.

Have a blessed week!

Michelle
